Have you ever seen one of those little houses filled with books just sitting there?
In honor of her birthday on February 14, Kate’s Heart is announcing our Little Free Library project and we hope you will join us in celebration of Kate’s life.
Hi this is Kate’s mom, Susan. If you knew Kate you knew of her love for books and literacy. One day about 5 years ago she and I saw one of these little houses and she told me how she thought it would be a great project for us to do. Of course life got busy and it never happened. Frankly I forgot about it until one of her friends mentioned it.
There are more than 60,000 Little Free Libraries in more than 80 countries across the world. These are free exchanges where anyone can leave and/or take a book and volunteer groups steward these donated libraries. According to the website littlefreelibrary.org they are designed to “inspire a love of reading, build community, and spark creativity.” A mission that definitely would speak to Kate’s heart.
How can you help us?
Donate: It costs about $300 to buy a ready made library but we have a generous offer from one of our supporters to build them for us. If you can donate to help us purchase the materials to build the little boxes, please click the donate button here or on our Facebook page.
Suggest: If you or someone you know in Columbia or St. Louis would let us set up the libraries (preschools, day care centers, shelters, neighborhoods, churches) please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be in touch.
Volunteer: If you are interested in being on our steward team, contact us at email@example.com and we will follow up with more information.
Share: Share this post with your friends so we can spread the word.
Thank you from all of us at Kate’s Heart.
